Meal planning.
The other night I made broccoli pasta for dinner, riffing off the general idea of the concept more than modifying any one recipe - pasta, broccoli, onions, spring garlic, feta, the last of a container of sundried tomatoes and some grated parmesan, whatever was left in the bottle of lemon juice, a reason to use up the last of the pink mountain salt I got when someone moved out.
Today for lunch prep I riffed on this one specfic recipe - olive oil instead of butter, all the leftover tomatoes and fresh onions and spring garlic I had lying around, some parsley, a few shakes of this herb and that spice mix when the tomatoes went in, two cups of rice to finish the open bag with proportional water to match. I followed the instructions as written, except for a few more minutes of cooking time.
It's not quite sweeping the kitchen clean, but there's still a very good feeling of tidying up.
