Engagment parties.
There were a lot of people I knew over the weekend, and more that I didn't. Most people I knew were happy to see me, and most of the ones I met were happy to talk, too. I got very well lubricated both days, and took a particular kind of delight in eating the edible garnishes that would've otherwise gone to waste - carefully sliced cucumbers and tomatoes cut into roses, things like that.
I didn't take any leftovers, flowers, or any souvenirs. There was a lovely moment where someone made a comment about the people she watches at the gym and I was able to pull out the book I happened to have with me and open it up to a relevant passage touching on exactly what she was talking about that'd been written nearly forty years ago. There was another where I made a couple of people laugh after they said that Hannah was a common name, and I told them I didn't know about that, I encounter it every day but I don't meet a lot of others with it - and they were very taken with how I said I encounter it every day.
I'd planned on going, and I hadn't planned on having such a good time.
