The Tiger is Out: Chapter 53
“Fear.”
He didn’t startle. He didn’t spin around. Even though he hadn’t taken the oath he’d been too well trained for that kind of sudden reaction. He turned his head to look over his shoulder, moving to a defensive stance.
“Always fear in you, always your most solid state since you left your mother’s briny ocean, certain and clinging, always fearful and never afraid.”
Joe looked towards the source of the voice coming down the alley, something familiar sweeping over him he couldn’t name or place.
“Courage, to armor yourself in such a feeling, to be so fearful and never let yourself be scared.” The woman walked closer. “I felt it in you then, so little time ago, and you carry it now, such sharp fear, knowing the dangers of the world.” She didn’t have a coat, just a long-sleeved dress. “Fear, and your lack of it.” When she stepped into the faint light shining from the upstairs windows and back-alley lamps, her skin was pale enough he knew she had to be a vampire.
“How good it is to see you, dear Joseph.” She smiled at him, gently and fondly. “How great, and grand, to look upon your face again.”

Also, last night, I went to bed early and took some Ativan between 10:40 and 11:20. It took me at least ten minutes to fall asleep, and I woke up around 10:30AM this morning. I know I must have needed the rest, and it's kind of boggling how much I needed the rest.
