Pull the car off the road.
Most days I do a little exercise in the evenings. Most days I'll take the elevator if I've got a lot of stuff to carry to my apartment. Most days.
Today was a day where there wasn't any elevator service, prompting me to haul the 33 pound bag of birdseed plus about ten pounds of turkey thighs and root vegetables up to my apartment, then carry the laundry down, make another trip to swap the loads into the dryers, then carry it all back up. Because it's laundry day, and the alternative - of doing laundry some other day of the week - is unthinkable to me.
This is why I do the exercise in the evening, most days: elevator insurance. For when it's not an option, I'll know my capabilities and how to deal with luxurious inconveniences.
Yesterday I didn't do much because my family did our Thanksgiving hike early. We went to a lake north of New York City and walked around on old carriage paths for a few hours, and ate turkey sandwiches and drank coffee. I brought a bottle of rye, and some people drank a bit of that with their coffee. So it's been a good couple of days of getting around on my feet.
It'll be a nice night to have an adult beverage or two and slide into bed.
