I took a walk instead of a bike ride today, and because it's easy to draw connections between unrelated things, I want to put that down as the reason I wrote such unsatisfying words tonight. Probably not. But it's nice to think that because I didn't move enough, my current fic is stalled and in a holding pattern.

Still. Recognizing the problem is a solid way to start solving it.

Also, the walk took me past a deli I quite like, and when I saw they were open, I went inside. They've got a limited menu, and are working to sell the ingredients and dry goods they can't easily turn into food - large tubs of tahini, for example. So, because I had to stay on brand even in an epidemic, I impulse bought a pound and a half of dried lentils.

It cost me less than a latte, so it's not that bad an impulse buy, as these things go. I'm thinking I'll cook them with onions and spinach, or possibly, couscous and cauliflower. So many possibilities.

Lentils disappeared during the second wave of panic buying here. They're one of our kitchen staples; they were selling for over a dollar an ounce on amazon when we looked. So not bad at all as an impulse buy, I'd say.

I inventoried our freezer the other day and came up with two skimpy little lamb shoulder chops that needed to be used. Turned them into a lamb-lentil-barley stew that yielded five hearty servings. It was yummy and the lentils were the perfect way to stretch that tiny bit of lamb.
