Fandom joys.

Another reason I bemoan the loss of downloadable fanmixes: there's no longer the delight of looking over the ones I grabbed on impulse years, sometimes decades ago, and discovering songs I've been wanting to listen to and didn't even know I had. You can't get that sort of happenstance with streaming services.

I don't even remember where most of these came from, never mind who made them. I remember recognizing one song or another, thinking they'd be a good way to dive into new artists. And what do you know, I was right. Not all of them, but enough of them gave me something - Voxtrot, Sons of the Never Wrong, Great Big Sea, The National - that I can't look back on those impulses with any regret. Not even a little.

Yes, plus it's also a question of getting the streaming services to work for you, vs running downloads on your own software.
