Counting out the beats.
September arrived with the smell of smoke. I've kept my windows open for the last couple of weeks, so when I got out of bed - rabbit run rabbit run - it was lingering in the air already, fading out some as the morning went and returning late in the afternoon. My guess is it came from one of the outdoor decks or rooftop gathering spots down the block from my building. My hope is that other people enjoyed it, too.
Because it's a change in seasons, it's time for the autumn and winter boots. I love the tactile feedback and sensations that the thin-soled Chuck Taylors provide - there's a lot of fun to be had in feeling the cobblestones - but they can't keep my feet dry. Hence the new Doc Martens. I've been breaking them in by wearing them around my apartment, and judging from the errands today, they'll keep my toes nice and safe. Now to stock up on extra-thick socks.
