Aisle after aisle in reach

To take myself out of the world for a while, I went and saw a double-feature of "A Bread Factory." Both halves were very good - I think the first stands on its own better, the second half has a more gentle ending - and I'm glad I took the day for it.

Now, I've never been to a double-feature before, but my dad's been to a few and he's told me a few things. So I knew how these things are supposed to happen. I knew what to do.

I ate lunch in the movie theater.

Look, you just can't do a daytime double-feature and not eat lunch. It has nothing to do with things like nutrition or caloric intake: not doing lunch goes against the spirit of the enterprise.

I had to sneak it in since the closest things to real food the concession stand sold were coffee and ice-cream sandwiches. One of my old standby work lunches for days I couldn't afford to carry around dirty dishes after clocking out: Trader Joe's burrito, yogurt cup, apple. I had a plastic spoon left over from something else, so even that got tossed out.

There was about thirty minutes in between the two movies, so after stretching my legs, I went back in - same seat, thank you - and for a while, it was just me alone in there. Happily eating my lunch.

A few minutes of being alone in New York City will prepare you for just about any news to come your way.
