Technology rampant.

As of last Friday, I'm now an iPhone owner. There was a little while in there when I was between phones, maybe thirty minutes while the store's staff transferred my phone number over. That was all they could grab, though, because my old phone - an LG Xpression I got back in 2012, six years and two weeks ago - was too old to be compatible with current iPhone technology. Even though I got an iPhone SE, which itself has since been retired from the line and had to be a special order through the phone company's website.

I don't think much of it so far. It doesn't get as good reception as my old phone, for sending or receiving phone calls. It also needs a case.

As of today, though, I made a bunch of people smile. When I was at the gym this afternoon, there were a group of women working out together, and I mean working out - deadlifts, squats, all sorts of heavy lifting moves that left them sweaty and breathing hard after each set of reps, and also cheering and quietly roaring for having completed them. One woman finished a set of deadlifts, then stepped away and gave a little roar, all her friends cheering.

And then they laughed when they registered that I was applauding. Laughed with joy and their entire bodies. I was off on the treadmill in the corner, watching them and having a great time, and we were all enjoying ourselves and our workouts, alone and together and as a group.

Not that it wasn't good to go to the gym for a bit. Just that being able to applaud like that and make other women smile made it even more worthwhile.

It's amazing how quickly phone tech gets outdated. The first time I switched phones it was because my phone had stopped working with the networks. My current phone is from 2013 and I suspect it will become outdated long before it becomes damaged or otherwise dysfunctional.
