On going home again.

Hannah: Spike and gender: it’s delicious.
court-of-ocelot: IT IS
It’s what’s for breakfast :D
Hannah: Mr Performative.
court-of-ocelot: He is :D
I really wonder
whether he wears his Britishness as performance too
Hannah: Given how he cultivated his accent, I can totally believe that.
court-of-ocelot: I mean honestly it’s probably mostly just… this American way of writing a foreign character. BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t read it as intentional
right!
I always wanted post-series fic where he and Buffy and Dawn live in Lonon
and like, Buffy gets to enjoy foreignness
Hannah: And at least 70% of the buildings are exactly the same.
Hannah: Probably closer to 90%.
court-of-ocelot: yesssssssssssss
i wonder what part of the city they’d live in
like, fancy? working class? Soho (where all the vampires probably live)?
Hannah: How much money do they have?
court-of-ocelot: YES that’s the question
Is Buffy Being Paid Yet
Hannah: Spike asking to go back inside his old house.
Look, there’s no way he OWNS it, and there’s no way someone else didn’t buy it to live there.
court-of-ocelot: OH NO
court-of-ocelot: OH MY GOD
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hannah: So he might scramble some excuse “my family used to live here.”
Which is true!
court-of-ocelot: yssssssss
Hannah: So he just asks about the history, what happened since 1900 or so, how’s the plumbing been renovated, did they fix that upstairs window…
No deaths. Just a gentle return to say good-bye.
The human host wondering “how’d he know about the window?”
court-of-ocelot: yssssss.
would he be alone?
Hannah: I think so.
Buffy would understand what it means to him.
court-of-ocelot: yessssss
but he’d need to just
face it alone and let himself get lost in it
Hannah: The kitchens, the bedrooms, the hallways. Closing his eyes to remember what it looked like in sunlight.
court-of-ocelot: <3333333
but it’s changed too
and become modern, even more modern than the place he lives now
still gentle and homelike
court-of-ocelot: but not his, anymore
Hannah: A proper good-bye.
court-of-ocelot: yessssss
Hannah: Which he could use.
court-of-ocelot: which he LOVES
he lives for narrative meaning
i wonder if he ever wanted to have had a more meaningful goodbye from Angel
not that he misses him (FUCK ANGEL)
but just like, he nicely btrayed him in s2, super dramatic and all
and then whoooooops, met him again a bunch of times
Hannah: I like to think he does eventually.
Hannah: You should write that return home as a drabble.
It’d be suitably and gently tragic.
Bittersweet, that’s the word.
court-of-ocelot: OH MAN
Hannah: IS HIS OLD BEDROOM STILL A BEDROOM?
court-of-ocelot: I think I’d like to write a Spike drabble, yessssss, maybe something on thresholds
HAH
Hannah: WAS THE HOUSE DIVIDED UP INTO LITTLE FLATS TO MAKE USE OF LONDON REAL ESTATE?
court-of-ocelot: WHAT IF THERE’S A BABY IN IT : D
Hannah: Or is it still a huge one-family house?
“My family bought it in 1908.” “Good year.”
I love the image of vampires holding a baby. Passing it around. Not to eat! To marvel over.
Look at the toes! Look at them. So tiny. Wow.
And the mother says couldn’t you just eat it up?
GOOD GOD, WOMAN, ARE YOU MAD
court-of-ocelot: ahahahahahahh
Hannah: THIS IS YOUR FLESH AND BLOOD HERE
court-of-ocelot: ahahhh
PROTECT YOUR KIN
Hannah: Spike smelling the room he used to live in and learning a lot about who’s in there now.
court-of-ocelot: i wonder if babies smell good to vampires
i mean, they have that baby smell
Hannah: Probably.
They’re all fresh.

[…]

Hannah: I think if Spike spent enough time in California, he might well begin calling himself a “dude.”
court-of-ocelot: HA
Y E S
oh my go
yes
a bloke, a dude
Hannah: Trying to disentangle masculinity and maleness and Man.
court-of-ocelot: suddenly irreversibly reminded of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOf3kYtwASo
Hannah: I can get behind this.

And a song for you, that always makes me think of Lorne.
