hannah: (Winter - obsessiveicons)

Down it falls.

Today was the first snow of the year. It started in the morning and kept up all day, gentle and cold, and I made sure to stop a couple of times just to look up into it. There might be some more that falls tonight. Yesterday I was walking through the park and thinking that on Monday, I'd seen bright leaves falling off the trees and blown across the grounds, and it'd taken just four days to go from fall to winter - gray sky, empty trees. I enjoy fall and spring, but they're transitional seasons, and can't easily be trusted. Winter and summer can't be argued with.

I miss the winters I grew up with, and the way they erased shadows and shrank the world down. And I miss the summers, too, the dry heat that went on for miles. But if there's snow in the winter here, and ocean-deep green in summer, I can like it here, too.

Enjoy, Hannah! I moved to Corpus Christi in 2004 and we had snow on Christmas Eve. 13 years later we had snow again, staring at 2am Friday, 8 Dec. So Friday was a play day for us down here. Hope you had fun with your first snow this year too.
