The day's bounties.
I think it was Orlando Jones who gave me a miniature pumpkin at the Union Square greenmarket today, but given that the Headless Horseman costume by definition doesn’t have a head, I’ve no real way to know for certain.
It’s a really cute pumpkin, though.
In other Halloween news, my parents' apartment building has designated trick-or-treating hours, and on top of that, flexible glowsticks are distributed for hanging on people's doorknobs to indicate who is and isn't participating. They could be on vacation, they could have a cold, but whatever the reason, it's a good shorthand to let people know where they should and shouldn't go.
Of course, some people forgo the system entirely and just put out bowls of candy for whomever shows up.
Let me tell you, going from the twelfth floor on down was pretty rewarding, for reasons that included scaring two people who were taking down their decorations and getting another couple to laugh when I said that since I was someone disdainful of movies on the Upper West Side in a black dress I had to be Pauline Kael.
