Time for the victory jig!
I've got a job. It's temporary, it's part-time, and it pays. And it's a job. And it pays. And it's a job. This is going to take some getting used to. And it pays!
Nearly two months ago I interviewed for a short-term local position, didn't get it, and was told they'd keep my CV on file. On Monday I got an e-mail asking if I was still interested, Tuesday I called them to set up an interview, and today I arrived ten minutes early and left forty-five minutes later employed. I walked back through Central Park, which helped ground me to the reality of the world around me and consider the prospect of getting paid. Because getting paid - yes. It's been nearly two years since that's happened. I'm not counting gallery reimbursement checks. This will be different.
It's going to be for two to five months, paid by the hour, and maybe twenty to thirty hours a week. It'll be me getting paid until I run out of work, which I'm pretty used to by now. It's still gratifying to look forward to, and it's not a long-term permanent position where I'll stay on and get a retirement package, but it's something, and that's more than what I had yesterday. It either starts on the twenty-third or the thirtieth, and I'm not sure which until I hear back.
It beats an unpaid internship, that's for sure.
I think I'll buy train tickets to Washington DC for next weekend and also con.txt, and maybe take the rest of the month off from the job hunt.

And I hope this good thing leads to another good thing, in its wake; and also, I am glad you're giving yourself a month off from the job search.
