Roll a new leaf over.
I'm working my way through The Unusuals on Hulu - one of those 'too good to last' shows that was on for about ten minutes - and so far, I'm really enjoying myself. Solid writing, good balance of drama and comedy, hidden depths and dark pasts, nice use of the setting as a character, and a limited number of episodes to get through to leave me wanting more before it ever goes bad.
The most surprising moment had nothing to do with the plot: about fifteen minutes into the first episode, I realized the main actress was Amber Tamblyn. Before this, all I'd seen her on was House, and I had no idea she was a genuinely good actress - largely because I wanted to punch her character in the face. Turns out, she knows how to inhabit and develop a character with a backbone and genuine personality, and really knows how to use her face.
I guess this shows just how bad House got - lasting too long to be good. I'll miss it when it's gone, but man, it's seriously gone downhill from where it started.
