Comparative zoology.

As much as I like the people I work with, there are some things which we're just never going to agree on or both be comfortable with. One of them is dogs. One of the things we researched today were animal actors in silent movies, to see if we could find any large press photos to include in the upcoming exhibit. When we found some, everyone else was cooing over some sort of messy dog, probably a terrier, and I just couldn't figure out what they saw in it. I knew it was on its back in a pose of mock helplessness that encouraged them to find it endearing, but I couldn't get anything close to that in my head. Rin Tin Tin was all right to look at, but that messy terrier just made me want to go off and think about crocodiles.

I ended up stopping at Fauna on the way back so I could take in some nice, clean scales. The blue-tongued skink was gone, off to a good home, and I want one more than ever now - though I did get to hear the kookaburra call, and that's worth any amount of reptile snuggles.

I did pay attention to the time coming back and learned if I don't stop on the way, it takes me about a half-hour to walk back to my apartment. I might see about leaving earlier to walk there, too, since I have a decent idea how long it'd take. If I do stop, it takes anywhere from forty-five minutes to an hour - there's a Trader Joe's just a few blocks from my internship, and if I go up Broadway, the chances of being tempted into going into an interesting store get pretty high.

I agree with you about dogs. I will tolerate them, and I will even be helpful and friendly to them (I was dog-sitting for a friend recently), but I have never had that rush of emotion that some people seem to get when they start cooing over how cute a dog is.

I do like cats, though. Especially mine.

Some dogs are quite nice - Pit Bulls, for example, are very sweet and charming and lots of fun to pet - but messy dogs, like those terriers, are too much for me. I need a cleaner, sleeker animal.

Yes. Like most cats. :)
