Mundane realizations.

When I went out to buy groceries today, I realized this was the first time in nearly seven years I haven't needed to carry a specific ID with me. All through college and grad school I needed my ID to show I was a student, plus they doubled as bus passes so if I wanted to get anywhere that wasn't in walking distance I had to have it. At the Y, I needed a Y-issued ID to get back inside and sign in guests because their security is that strict. But now that I'm in an independent apartment, I don't need to carry anything like that around anymore.

Sure, having my driver's license around is just being prudent, and yes, I need my ID to get onto the Ellis Island staff boat, but I don't need something to get into the building where I sleep or travel around the city. It's kind of freeing, actually.

This morning I transferred almost everything I wanted over. The only thing I missed, because I didn't bring a big enough suitcase for one final run, is a dish rack I bought for the kitchen. Not a big loss, and they need it more than I do - I just wanted a nicer one than the one I inherited from my younger brother. But I got everything else, and it'll work fine. I should be fully unpacked and organized this time next week.
