Tuesday night.

Since this is a residential neighborhood, I catch the bus to get to work right by a house with birdfeeders on the front lawn that's also a block away from one of the city's larger parks. I tend to keep an eye on the feeders since it's always a treat to see sparrows eating upside-down and every so often I'm lucky enough to see a goldfinch. This morning I got luckier than I've ever been: there was a tiny rabbit underneath the feeder, munching at the grass at ten o'clock in the morning. It was small by Eastern Cottontail standards, so it must have been a juvenile out exploring on its own, and it kept munching as cars drove by, I got out my camera and took pictures, and the bus pulled up and took me off to work. Urban rabbits are always a treat, especially when they're that surprising.

Work was much better today - I came in later, so I stayed in later, so I was there after most of the other people left, which meant I got some relative quiet time. I'll be taking Thursday off since it's the busiest day of the week, and since I know I ought to make an effort at being an adult I'm not going to the zoo after all. Instead, campus looms, and with it a chance to catch up on job hunting and unanswered e-mails. The zoo can wait until next Tuesday.

Also, I should post that recipe for blueberry-walnut bread, since it came out absolutely fantastic.

OHHHH TINY RABBIT.

I startled one -- definitely a baby -- on the walking path the other day, and thought of you. It was the first time I'd seen such a young one, ever, and it was gone in a flash but so amazing.

The bunny I kept meaning to send you FINALLY got sent this afternoon, when I went to the post office to send my tax returns out (certified, return receipt; I don't just drop 'em in a mailbox).

As soon as I'm in a position for it, I'm getting rabbits again. They're such great creatures to have around, whether in the house or in the wild. As wild as Pittsburgh is, at any rate.
