Mood whiplash.
I managed, after a fair bit of fumbling, to figure out how to turn the "menu" bar on in Windows 7. Why that's not a default is beyond me. Anyway, finding it helps somewhat, and I don't want to go to bed angry, so I'll share a few nice things that aren't computer-related.
I went downtown to mail a package to a friend, and while I was there I got some frozen yogurt - original flavor, very tart - with blueberries and coconut as the toppings. Excellent flavor synergy.
I went biking up to the North ponds - why not? - and I saw one of the biggest wild snakes I've ever seen. At least two feet from head to tip, thick and strong, black with yellow stripes, probably a garter or a racer, and utterly beautiful. I saw a flash of movement across the path in front of me and stopped and whooped when I realized what it was. It was there for just for a couple of moments, slithering gracefully, and then it reached the other side of the path, sped into the bushes, and was gone.
From tonight's episode of House, I'm going to accept the reality of the televised broadcast and also take Wilson coming back in a sweatshirt and breathing hard, and House's commentary on mind-reading, as very obscure and personal shout-outs.

katernater, who found this most excellent video of Lost actors saying "Mmm...cake." It's a thing of beauty - not as much as the snake, but considerably funnier. Mmm...cake.
