We don't need knives, we've got classified information.

Two days ago, I bought a Blu-Ray player. It arrived today and I tested out its ability to communicate with my computer by ripping a DVD. As that was a success, I put in a hold for a Blu-Ray disc from the library to see how that's going to go. If the worst case is that I'm going to keep ripping the movies I want to watch and playing them from files instead of discs, I can live with that.

My setup for watching movies right now is the best it's ever been, which still isn't saying much. I don't have the square footage in my apartment for a big TV screen with a first-rate sound system; I've got a sizable monitor and decent speakers. The Blu-Ray player itself runs on a USB drive. But I didn't buy it for the picture clarity. I'm in it for the fact that all the special features worth tracking down are on Blu-Ray releases these days. If those are moving away from DVDs, I might as well go with them. Gently.
