Can't stop now, I'm cackalacky bound.
There's a very particular type of joy in hearing a song for the first time as it's played live, and then, years later, hearing it for the second time on an album recording. Ages and ages ago, a couple US presidential administrations back, I heard The Duhks in live concert as an opening act for Dar Williams. I liked them enough to buy a shirt, but not enough to buy any albums.
Some weeks ago, a niggling half-recalled verse of a song pushed me to order all five of their albums off eBay. And in listening to them one at a time, I finally came across the song of theirs I'd enjoyed so much way back when. Yes, I'd have bought their albums directly if they offered, but their website is too bare-boned for that, and it seems they dissolved before Bandcamp was founded. No matter, no mind: there might not be any new music, but what there is to listen to is as wonderful as it ever was.
I'd tried to find the song by looking up part of a lyric, and it turned out what I remembered - the single syllable - wasn't correct. It was simply part of a longer word. "Whack" wasn't getting me anything, but I can at least understand how I got that from "Cackalack."
