Booyah.

Among the things I brought back from California were lemons - fresh, organic, local to where I was staying. Gigantic and enormous compared to grocery store lemons. Absolute units of lemons. The four I used tonight got me just under two cups of juice, to give some idea of how enormous they were. I saved them first for lemon cake, and then for spiced lemonade, both of which were joys to make for the knowledge of the lemons I was using.

The spiced lemonade took a while, mostly to let it drain and cool completely. But it's been a while in the planning, because I had a container of chai spices I got a good long while ago that I'd been saving in my cupboard without knowing exactly what I'd do to use it up. It seemed fitting to use it up on these fresh California lemons. They had a long trip from their point of origin, but I know how long it's been since they were on the tree and I was with them every step of the way on their trip. And I can't get more like them, not without going back to California. And I can't get more of this chai mix unless I gather up all the ingredients and make it myself.

It all made for a lemonade concoction that would blow my socks off, if I was wearing any.

And now, to stock up on seltzer and dream of big blue skies.
