hannah: (Fruit - truntles)

We have bananas today.

I recently learned about Miami Fruit, one of several Florida-based specialty fruit companies. I checked the prices of some of its boxes and filed it away as tempting and presently nonviable.

Tonight I went to check it again, passing the link onto a friend, and found out that not only does it do a banana variety box, it does a Gros Michel box. The banana candy banana. The bananapocalypse banana.

To put it in fandom terms: Steve Rogers' banana.

Ha! I literally just today filed to cancel my banana subscription box after a couple of years of having one from there! No one else in the family is eating them, I can't go through a box by myself, and bananas keep going to waste. My last box arrived today and reminded me that I needed to say farewell to the subscription.

FWIW, the Gros Michel just tastes like a banana (the banana candy myth is just that). Maybe a slightly stronger banana, but still not radically different from a Cavendish. It's one of the less exciting ones on offer there (some of the bananas, such as the Nam Wah are sublime, mind you).

I am going to miss my bananas, not going to lie, but I suspect I'll just do an occasional box as a treat.

The mystery boxes are fun! They're probably the most affordable way to try out the offerings.

I found that site a couple (few?) years ago and was SO TEMPTED...and then I checked their S&H to Canada, which is unsurprisingly nightmarish, so I've never ordered. But oh, so many amazing-sounding things.
