Sweet fools.
Today was lovely, except for the bugs.
A friend from Jersey City picked me up, took me to Liberty State Park for a walk in open green space, fed me brunch, and drove me back to my apartment. I definitely didn't use enough sunscreen, and I'm okay with that. There were poached eggs, fish crows, butterflies, lots of geese, plenty of vines and flowers and shade, and just enough people for that ideal balance of uncrowded populated space.
There were also mosquitoes.
A good part of Liberty State Park is gorgeous wildlife area, wetlands and shoreline left undisturbed. It's been raining. I took a walk on a path in the wetlands. You see where this is going.
I was fairly cranky afterwards, trying not to take it out on anyone around me either through rudeness or being snippy. It got easier after a peach Bellini and some coffee. I'm about ready to collect my thoughts enough to send an email thanking her and apologizing for anything untoward I might've said after looking down and seeing multiple small mosquitoes land on my legs and arms.
I've heard horror stories about such insects. This wasn't anywhere near the level those achieved. This was much, much lower down on the scale of insect horror. It was, however, one of the most unpleasantly pleasant days I've had in a long time.
