There's no end to transformation narratives, and an astonishing number of those have the individual becoming human - and I can't think of any that have that kind of wistfulness and change into adulthood. Leaving childhood magic behind is a different enough kind of narrative it doesn't scratch the itch of someone willingly changing like that.
