Do you have an 'X that got away' story, where X is some object that you didn't acquire or purchase (because of lack of funds, being talked out of it, reconsidering your initial desire for it) but now regret that you missed out on it? Some limited edition merchandise, tickets to an event, a nice blazer that was just out of your price range?
My own story involves my 22-year-old self in Colonial Williamsburg and a full 18th-century formal gown (overdress, underskirt, and stomacher, to be worn over a linen shift) in a beautiful dark green brocade, which I tried on in a store but did not purchase because I did not have $350 for the set and could not justify dipping into my savings for a dress that I might never actually wear anywhere. The saleswoman actually said that she wished she could lend me some of the money because I looked so good in the dress. I think about it every so often, though -- and I'm curious to know if other people have that memory of an elusive purchase that never was.
