I would, quite honestly, read a hundred thousand words of Willow and Xander as delightful young queers that fall into fighting the forces of darkness alongside Buffy and exploring how that Kinsey scale-up, for lack of a better term, unspooled during the show's run. Using a different kind of subtext, perhaps less oblique, but still subtext.

Anya declaring, "Vengeance has no gender. Vengeance needs no gender." And I have no idea how Xander's boyfriend would deal with the reality of vampires and demons and whatnot, except I hope it wouldn't have lead to a break-up.
